Trash Obsession

The third Wallenstein album. This was the first album I encountered by them, purely bought because I knew the label and that I recognised at least one name from The Cosmic Jokers. I was in for quite a surprise, lots of classical references and big dramatic instrumental sections, especially the side-log suite "The Symphonic Rock Orchestra". Jürgen Dollase's unique song style was quite unlike anything I'd heard before, and although strange had a quaint charm to it that I soon warmed to.Over the years I had a good few pressings of the KM issue of this, at least 3 variations. Based on my experience the first and second editions stand the test of time ageing better than the third which has the fault common to many mid-1970s Metronome releases in that the cover laminate peels. Of all the Kosmische Musik releases however, this seems to have fared worst as a reissue than any other. Even in the early 1980s it would seem that the tapes had been lost. The Bernard Mikulski "Pop Import" vinyl issue (not yet documented here on Discogs) was quite obviously reproduced from old vinyl. What's more, they used more than one record as a master (notable by the differences in background noise) and the result was that someone messed up big time, with a section of "The Symphonic Rock Orchestra" suite fading out and then repeating. This fault, without any correction, has been reproduced on every CD reissue I've heard since.
